"Mm. Of art studies. Though I do tend to do some light tutoring on the side and commissioned paintings." Rahmu said, stopping his stirring and bringing the cup to his lips for a sip before dunking another shortbread finger in it.
He looked up at the girl and a faint smile touched the corner of his lips. "I dont believe we've introduced ourselves yet. It seems like the proper place to start before asking the more personal questions, right?" He chuckled a little and after finishing off the dunked bite of shortbread, he brushed dark red hair behind his ear again and looked straight at Kaoru with dark blue eyes. "I'm Rahmu Nekoi, though you may call me Rahmu. Being called Mr. Nekoi doesnt suit me much, but in public people tend to be more formal. I'm also okay with being called sensei, since I am a teacher." He paused a moment and looked as if he laughed though it was fairly silent unlike when he chuckled. "And you are, Miss...?"

"You're like Yuki-san then!" Kaoru said happily, her smile wide and her green eyes sparkling. But then she caught herself and she frowned slightly. "I mean Higurashi-sensei. I'm not supposed to call him by his first name since he's my teacher..." But all that was soon forgotten when she was reminded that she hadn't introduced herself yet. How could she not remember that? Oh, she had been so rude...
Blushing faintly, she set down her cup. "Uhm, Kaoru... Kaoru Satou. It's nice to meet you, Rahmu-san." She had embarrassed herself so much already that she did not dare ask any other questions. She placed her hands in her lap and blew at a stray curl of red hair that had fallen into her face. It almost worked for a minute, but then it fell back in front of her eyes. It didn't even occur to her to use one of her hands to push the curl behind her ear, so instead she sat there, pursing her lips and blowing at it stubbornly.

Rahmu laughed a little at how animated she was, even being nervous. Seeing her fuss with a lock of hair in her face, he instinctively reached out and brushed it behind her ear before sitting back with a small smile. "So your sensei is an art teacher as well? What form does he specify?" He caught himself, realizing there were many people who wouldnt understand the question and sought to rephrase it. "Err, I mean....is he, perhaps, a painter? Or a sculptor, maybe? What's his medium f choice, is what I'm asking." He lowered his eyes to his nearly empty tea cup and looked at the remaining two shortbread fingers. He never was able to finish all of them no matter how long he stayed, which meant more to the cookie jar at home. His private students enjoyed the treats, so it was a good way not to waste food. He knew what it was like to go hungry, after all, despite how long ago those orphaned days were.

Kaoru blinked when she saw the man reach out towards her but then blushed when she felt his hand gently push that annoying lock of hair behind her ear. "Thank you..." She mumbled and turned her face down to hide the rosy color that was spreading across her cheeks. When she did that, her eyes fell on her half-eaten strawberry pastry. She had totally forgotten about it! Picking up her spoon she took a bite and hummed in appreciation at the sweet taste.
"Yu- Higurashi-sensei, that is, specializes in Traditional Japanese art." Kaoru replied with ease and licked some remaining cream off her spoon. It was much easier to talk about someone else. "He works a lot with watercolors and inks. But he can do other things too! He's working on a portrait right now, I think..." She smiled as she thought of her teacher. He had taken such good care of her ever since she came to Tokyo. "He has also helped me a lot with my collection too. Not with the sewing, of course, he is dreadful with a sewing machine, but with the designs and the prints!"

Rahmu folded his arms on the edge of the table and leaned forward, his face genuinely interested as Kaoru talked so fondly of her art teacher. "Ah, Japanese art. I've tried my hand at it a few times, though it's a very delicate craft most of the time. I'm still an amatuer at it." He glanced out the window a moment as if fumbling for something more to say.
His eyes returned to Kaoru's and there was a hint of curiosity in them as he asked, "Collection? Are you talking about your fashion sense?" He'd never met anyone who designed and made their own clothes, so hearing Kaoru speak of such craftsmanship was an intriguing surprise. Tessa embroidered and altered, but she didnt fully make any of her and the girls' clothes that he knew of. Sewing could also be considered art, though he was pretty sure few considered it to be such.

"Mm, Yuki-san has been teaching me, but I am never going to be as good as he is." Kaoru said somewhat wistfully but then she smiled. "That's okay, though, I always get to be the first to see his pieces." Yuki had even made a whole painting just for Kaoru once. She had been so happy and the day Yuki finally showed it to her, she had managed to knock them both over when she tried to hug him.
"Yes, that's right. I love making clothes!" She replied enthusiastically to Rahmu's question and then gestured to the blue dress she was wearing. "I made this as a part of my last collection and I got to show everything at a big fashionshow at school last month."

"Really?" Rahmu inquired with interest, his dark blue eyes almost glittering. "That's wonderful, Kaoru-chan. To garner such success in your craft at such a young age." He clasped his hands under his chin, not quite resting his chin upon his laced fingers as he kept eye contact with a faint smile on his lips. "I've hosted a few of my own collections in my father's gallery, though it's mostly paintings and sculptures."
He couldnt help his passion when it came to art, and the emotion was written in his tone as he spoke again. "There's an art festival coming up this Fall....perhaps you and Higurashi-san could display some of your favorite pieces. I think it'd be wonderful to have a variety of mediums on display, what do you think?"

Kaoru's smile brightened. The clothes she made were the only things that she was really truly proud of. A lot of thought had gone into making them and she had spent hours in the studio trying to finish everything on time, but it had been worth it. She had even gotten praise for some of the dresses in the shop she worked in. To hear her boss, the owner of Victorian Maiden, admire something that she had made herself made her heart soar.
"I would love to! And I'm sure Yuki-san would as well!" The idea of being able to show what she had done at an Art Festival... She couldn't even imagine it! "But..." She hesitaded for a minute. Clothing designs were not universally accepted as art and she didn't want to cause any trouble. "Will it really be okay? I mean... I only make clothes... I don't paint or anything like that.."

Rahmu smiled and let a small laugh escape him as he sat back, laying his hands in his lap. "It should be fine. I have a friend who designs garments, though she doesnt make them completely by hand, and she puts them on display sometimes for craft fairs and such. Fashion can be an art when it drives us to expand our creativity, and being a delicate craft that not many can pull off to such a degree, I dont see why there would be a problem with it." He let out a calm sigh and picked up his cup, drinking the last of his tea before setting it gracefully back on the saucer. "It would also benefit you in the long run to have your work on display, because it'll give you a chance to attract clients for your work."

"Well, in that case I would love to!" Kaoru exclaimed, almost bouncing up and down with excitement. "I'll have to start working on some new dresses soon so they will be ready in time!" Reaching for her notebook again, she flipped through the pages and looked through all of the designs that she had drawn. "I wonder what I should do..." Deciding that none of her already finished designs would do, she picked up her pen and started sketching on something new. She could get like that sometimes. When she got enough inspiration or enough motivation she simply could not help herself and had to start working immediately.
"Until now I have only made clothing for myself... but someday I would like to see someone else in my dresses... And maybe even own my own shop..."

Rahmu folded his arms on the table again, half leaning on them as he turned his eyes out the window, letting Kaoru lose herself in her passions. "All the more fortunate you'll have a chance to fulfill that dream with the exhibition." It made him happy to be able to help another artist or craftsman excel, and didnt seem to mind at all that Kaoru was now distracted by her work. His face had the nostalgic dreamy look he'd had when looking wistfully outside at his own table, lost in thoughts no one could read or guess at usually.

Kaoru continued to sketch fervently and one outfit after another seemed to come alive on the pages of her notebook. Poofy skirts, long and short, elegant blouses, stockings and socks, headbows, flowers... and little mini hats that sat slightly askew on big hairdos. But what colors would it all be.... She rested her chin in her hand and nibbled slightly on her pen as she pondered this very important question.
After a long while of thinking she still had no answers. Frowning slightly she looked around and eventually her eyes landed on the man sitting in front of her. He had been silent for a while now... "Nee, Rahmu-san? Name a color, any color!" She said and smiled wide.

He was pulled from his reverie by her sudden question and seemed not to have heard at first as he mumbled, "Hm?" It registered then and he eased out a pensive sigh, mulling over his answer. At last he looked at her and said, "Brown. Or rather, shades like sepia, sierra, rust, and chestnut." He looked at her curiously, hoping he was being at least somewhat helpful with that answer.

Kaoru tilted her head slightly to the side and considered the answer. Images of dresses in brown hues passed before her eyes. And if she were to add more flowers... in a pretty color maybe... Or just creamy white... Yes that would definitely work! "Thank you! That's perfect!" She said exictedly and smiled gratefully at Rahmu. "Oh! I even have this wonderful rust-colored velvet at home!" That fabric had been lying on a shelf in her apartment for months now but she hadn't quite decided what to do with it. But now she knew. It would become a wonderful One-Piece and the thick quality of the velvet would be perfect for the autumn and winter months.
Taking a few more sips from her tea, she looked down at her sketches. She was really looking forward to making this collection now.

Rahmu smiled faintly, glad to have been helpful, then turned his eyes back outside a little while longer. Finally he heaved a sigh that sounded somewhat disappointed and leaned back in his chair, grabbing his cane, then started to rise form his chair. "While it's been lovely to have tea with you, Kaoru-chan, I've put off my work long enough and should really get back." He reached into his pocket and pulled out his artist's business card and held it out to her. "If you ever need to get in touch with me, give me a call or feel free to stop by my studio. If I'm not in class, I'm usually there."
He offered her a polite smile and bowed his head in goodbye before starting to head off to the door, "Farewell then, Kaoru-chan. Pleasure to have met you." Without another word or a glance, he thanked the owner for the tea with a silent nod, and strolled out the door into the clear sunny afternoon.
