Yuki's paintbrush moved easily over the canvas, his eyes intent on the image only flickering to Yami occassionally. At this point he really did not have to pay so much attention to the model but once he started on the details he would barely take his eyes off him. Leaning back a bit, he dipped the brush in some more paint and was just about to return to his painting when he heard Yami's question. And he froze.
'Could you tell me about your former boyfriend?' A hundred memories flooded his mind all at once and he was forced to put down his brush for a while because his hands had started shaking all of a sudden.
"I..." He bit his lip and his brow creased into a frown. "There... there's nothing to tell, really..."

"There's always something to tell about an ex boyfriend," Yami said while nodding lightly. "Or else he wouldn't be your ex, right? So, why did you guys break up? Was he cheating on you or something?"

"Why all of these questions all of the sudden?" Yuki asked and laughed nervously, trying in vain to return to the task of painting Yami. He had not spoken of ChangMin to anyone except JoungYou and he wasn't certain he wanted to talk about it. His heart had been broken, smashed to smithereens in fact, but it was all in the past so why dwell on it? Right? The only problem was that he did dwell on it... All the time. And even though he had sworn to himself that he would never forgive ChangMin for what he did, Yuki could not help but hope that some day he would come home and everything would be alright again.
He winced at his own thoughts. This was definitely no good.
"Ah, we just... drifted apart I guess." Good Yuki, you have managed to make the understatement of the year. They did not drift apart. ChangMin abandoned him. Left him without a word and went off to Korea... And it wasn't until a few weeks later that Yuki finally was told where he had gone... Three weeks of constant worry for the other's safety... And when he finally found out, it was from ChangMin's brother, not the man himself.

"Hmmm..." Yami said as if he was thinking deeply. "Well... that sucks," was his academic deduction. "So, who ended it? That says a lot about a relationship. For instance, I'm always the one who ends it. That means I'm the controlling one. How about you?"

That sucks? Yeah, Yuki thought, it does. More than the younger man could ever imagine.
"It is easy when you're not the one who gets hurt, huh?" He asked somewhat bitterly. Yuki had never been the one in control of his relationship with ChangMin, he knew that, but to hear Yami speak of it so easily... It made him almost angry. At one point he knew that ChangMin would have thought of relationships the very same way and he probably hadn't changed at all... no matter how much he tried to convince Yuki that he had. Yes... ChangMin had been in control and he had shown it quite clearly when he disappeared without a word.
"He left."

"What?" Yami blinked a couple times. His brains were cracking but he didn't understand. "He left? Where to? Why?"

Yuki let his gaze fall to the floor. His eyes stung and he clenched his fists to keep from breaking down completely. 'He's gone... To Korea...' JoungYou's words echoed in his mind, bringing him back to that day. No, he would not live through that again. Not now, not ever! That man had caused him enough pain already...
He took a deep breath, unclenched his hands and reached for the paintbrush. Painting had helped him get through some really bad days so why should today be any different.
"Korea." JoungYou had said that it would help him to talk about it so maybe... Yuki sighed. So long as Yami kept asking... "To get an education... maybe... I don't know. That's what his brother said at least..."

"What? He didn't even tell you himself?" Yami asked surprised. "He left just like that? Some boyfriend he is!" Yami never minded if things he said could hurt other people. He always said what was on his mind. Honesty was his middle name.

Yuki let his paintbrush trail over the canvas, once again getting back to the task at hand. Yami had asked for a portrait and a portrait he shall have. Besides... it was easier to answer the boy's questions when he was concentrated on something else.
"Don't say that, Yami... You didn't know him." He said and brought the brush to the palet to gather some more paint. He wasn't sure why he was defending ChangMin after all this time... But the thought of someone else judging him... Well, Yuki couldn't stand it. Yes, it was horrible of the man to leave him without saying anything... but he had been so good at times...
"No, he didn't tell me. We had... a fight one night... and the next day he was gone."

"A fight about what?" Yami asked shamelessly. His purple eyes were fixed on Yuki and his face was dead serious. He didn't know why he cared so much about this, but the thought of someone causing Yuki to make this face didn't seem right to him.

Yuki sighed and looked at the other man. It was odd to see Yami this serious, he was usually so happy and easygoing... So very unlike... Yuki shook himself, deciding it was best not to go there. It was bad enough that he was already discussing his relationship with ChangMin, he didn't need to think about him any more than necessary.
"I don't know... Our relationship, if you could call it that, had never been easy and... Let's just say that he was quite a bit younger than me... and the age difference was... a problem most of the time..." There was no point in mentioning that ChangMin had been a student of his. "I guess you could say that we wanted different things in life..."
Without thinking, Yuki lifted his free hand and touched his chest, feeling the the ring that hung from a chain around his neck through the material of his shirt. It was still there, even after all this time.

Yami was silent for a while. You couldn't read off of his face what he was thinking. "You do realize that I'm also a bit older than twenty," he said after a long and painful silence. "And I get along with you just fine. Age is nothing but a number."

Yuki winced at the other man's words, realizing only now the full effect of his words. Yes, Yami was younger than him, even younger than ChangMin had been. But Yuki had never stopped to consider how the two of them were getting along. It was so very different than what he had had with the Korean man... And Yami, despite his childish enthusiasm, somehow seemed older than he was.
"Age is just a number, I know... But I knew that man for five years and he never seemed to grow up... And he wasn't willing to either." He tried to explain, hoping that Yami might understand. "He was intent on remaining the same as he always had been... spoiled and selfish. That was where we clashed, I guess... After all those years I couldn't believe that he hadn't changed, not even one bit. He was still that arrogant student that had walked into my classroom thinking he was the king of the world."
Yuki wasn't thinking as he spoke and therefore did not realize what he had said until it was too late. His eyes widened and he bit his lip. The fact that ChangMin had been his student was something that he had kept a secret for over five years and now he had gone and blurted it out to a boy he had only known for a few hours. Good job, Yuki...

"He was your... student?" Yami asked, dumbfounded. "You were doing it with a student? And you didn't get fired? How sneaky of you!" and he laughed.

Yuki looked mortified, his cheeks burning deep red and his eyes wide. "Not so loud!" He cried out and looks around desperatly, hoping that there was no one in the corridor outside of the classroom that might have overheard. The fact that Yuki could be fired had been the topic of conversation between him and ChangMin many times, but no matter how much the Art Teacher said no, the student simply wouldn't listen. Oh, how absolutely terrified he had been... His job was all he had and there was a constant chance that he could lose it so long as he stayed with ChangMin.
"Please, just forget I ever said anything!" He pleaded of Yami, and lowered his head to hide his face. Tears stung his eyes, but they did not fall... Not yet anyway.
